Guide to Oktoberfest in Munich Germany

Despite it's name Oktoberfest - Oktoberfest actually starts in September and flows into the first week of October in Munich, Germany. Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany should be on everyone's bucket list along with Running of the Bulls in Pamplona Spain, attending an F1 race, and playing a round of golf at The Old Course at St Andrews. Here is my guide to Oktoberfest in Munich Germany :

Guide to Oktoberfest in Munich Germany - What is Oktoberfest?

It is what you think it is! A festival or fair that is Europe's largest beer-drinking event. Drinking has something to do with it, but it's a huge festival with plenty of things to do.

The best way to enjoy Oktoberfest ?

The best way to enjoy Oktoberfest is to do it with a package. Dont spend the hours and hours on end researching and stressing over how to get tickets to tents, what to do, and how to navigate Oktoberfest. That is where I am here to help, with a package that I can provide it will include:

  • Hotel accommodation (3*, 4*, or 5*)

  • Reservation to a large tent

  • Reservation to a small tent

  • Reserved benches at tents

  • City tour or day trip (unless you want to keep drinking)

  • Airport transfers

  • On-site guide

What is a large tent and small tent at Oktoberfest ?

As your guide to Oktoberfest in Munich Germany we will need to talk about the tents. A tent where the food and beer happens. It typically consists of beer, lots of beer, lots of beer in wooden barrels. There will be entertainment in forms of music and lots of toasts. You will meet locals and tourists alike. Some tents are family friendly, families can enjoy a nice lunch before it gets too rowdy. Tents will have food. Some tents event have their own butcher. There are vegetarian options such as creamy mushrooms, vegetable patties, or dumplings.

Large tents typically can seat about 3000 to 10000 inside and out of their Oktoberfest beer gardens. A small tent typically will have up to 1000 seats combined. At large tents you will experience beer first and food second. Small tents will have food first and beer second.

All in all there are about 17 large and 21 small tents to choose from at Oktoberfest and Oide Wiesn. Dont worry, booking a package with me, we will take you to a large tent and small tent to experience both. These tents usually sell out.

Do I need a reservation for an Oktoberfest Beer Tent?

No, but if you do not have a reservation, you will have to wait. The lines can be LONG and seating is SCARCE. You can contact the tent yourself, but you are competing with everyone else that wants a reservation. Beer tents have different time slots and the reservations are typically for 3-4 hours. A table holds 8-10 people. Don't worry, I can guarantee you a reservation for a tent at Oktoberfest so you don't have to stress and get turned away in line.

What else is there to do at Oktoberfest ?

After you have had your fair share of beer you can choose from a variety of tours, day trips, and add-ons to your Oktoberfest trip:

  • City Tours

    • Munich Bike Tour

    • Old Town Walking Tour

    • Dachau Memorial Visit
