Why you should hire a Destination Wedding Travel Agent

One of the most important advantages on why you should hire a destination wedding travel agent is - they will save you on time, energy, and stress. Logistically, there will be no such thing as the perfect wedding day. The wedding may turn out to be perfect, but there is something bound to go wrong. Having had a destination wedding myself, I experienced it myself. On our wedding day, the weather threatened our outdoor wedding in San Juan Puerto Rico at the Condado Vanderbilt. I was called by our wedding coordinator and planner to go downstairs and make a decision. With the rain coming and two hours before I was set to get married, we decided to move the wedding indoors. Crisis averted.

Speaking of wedding coordinator... when looking at a destination wedding, there are a few people involved:

  1. Destination Wedding Travel Agent - That would be me. They will not be traveling with you, they will be stateside and remote. The destination wedding travel agent is responsible for booking you and your guests' accommodations and airfare. Then the destination wedding agent acts as a liasion between you and your resort venue's onsite wedding team. They will help with choosing and recommending a destination and resort. They will work in tandem from start to finish.

  2. Destination Wedding Coordinator - This is a person from the resort and at the resort. They are responsible for the venue and they will be a liason between you, your travel agent, and the hotel. Anything related to the venue from contract, setup (room layouts), food and drink, communication with vendors, vendor referrals, and schedules.

  3. Destination Wedding Planner - At some resorts the destination wedding coordinator and wedding planner is also your destination wedding planner. Since I got married in Puerto Rico and it was not an all inclusive, the venue just provided a list of vendors. I was still responsible for planning everything else such as flowers, cake, DJ, photographer, hair and makeup, and videographer, etc... This is where you need a destination wedding planner to handle what the destination wedding coordinator does not handle.

I do request a refundable deposit, depending on the length and size of the wedding party. I want to make sure there is a partnership, trust, and commitment. You are serios and not just looking for free advice and taking it somewhere else for a price match, you are looking to help on saving time, stress, and energy (and some cases money).
